#MYSERVICESTORY: Kathryn Duarte

Our #MYSERVICESTORY for the week comes from Kathryn Duarte, a junior Psychology major from Painesville, OH!

At which service sites / community partners have you served or been a student liaison?

I have served at the Domestic Violence Child and Advocacy Center, Julie Billiart School, and St. Martin De Porres High School.

"When I served at the Domestic Violence Child and Advocacy Center, I made such strong bonds with the people who lived there and the people who worked there as well. I looked forward to going to service each week to see all of them and do fun activities! I feel like the children who lived there really had an impact on me. And I would love to serve there again! We made a lot of different food there such as pizzas and cookies and you could tell the kids really loved helping us make food. What really touched me and stayed with me was when one of the kids drew my friend and I a picture to take home with us. He was also an amazing artist which made me very happy he took time out of his day to draw us something. I have it hanging up at my house at home. I feel service is such an essential part of our life and something I take pride in doing."

Each week we feature stories of students who have made service a cornerstone of their JCU experience.

Complete the form below to show us how you #ServeCLE! We’ll share your story on social media and in our weekly e-newsletter. If you’re a CSSA student liaison, you’ll earn points for your mentor group! Submit your service story at https://jcu.edu/myservicestory
